MCAS Teachers, Programs Honored by Chamber

Educators of the Year

The Michigan City Chamber of Commerce celebrated seven educators and two programs at its annual Educators of the Year awards program on November 6, 2018.

Chamber Board President Charlie Keene said nominations were received for Outstanding Educator, Lifetime Achievement and Shining Light, which recognizes an innovative program or class.
 
“The nominations review committee had many deserving, dedicated teachers and successful programs to choose from”, said Keene.

The outstanding educators for 2018 are Teresa Pavloff (Edgewood Elementary School Kindergarten teacher), Bob Eghbali (Marsh Elementary School counselor), Daisy Lee (Krueger Middle School Environmental Science teacher), Sheri Tuesberg (Edgewood Elementary School Third Grade teacher), and Mike Maesch (Knapp Elementary School Sixth Grade teacher).

Peggy Thomas, Principal at Edgewood Elementary School and Dan Ruth, Michigan City High School German teacher, were both honored with 2018 Lifetime Achievement Awards in recognition of their many years of outstanding educational leadership and dedication to students.
 
The Barker Middle School STEM Community Challenges Program and Michigan City High School Early College Program were recognized as innovative programs in education with the 2018 Shining Light Award.
