68 MCAS Students to "Circle the State with Song"
Close to 70 elementary and middle school students from Michigan City Area Schools will take part in a regional music festival this weekend, "Circle the State with Song."
The festival will be held on Saturday, March 5, at Hebron High School, and will showcase the best student voices from across northwest Indiana. Thirty-nine elementary students (from Coolspring, Joy, Lake Hills, Marsh, and Pine Elementary Schools) and 29 middle school students from Barker and Krueger will be among the 600 performers. Students were selected by their music teachers and have been rehearsing for several weeks to learn the challenging music they will perform.
The "Circle the State with Song" festival concludes with a finale concert at 3:00 p.m. in the Hebron High School gymnasium. The concert is open to the public; tickets are $3.00 for adults, and children 12 and under are free. Doors open at 2:45 p.m.
Saturday's concert in Hebron is one of 12 "Circle the State" festival concerts that will be held in Indiana during February and March. Statewide, the festival will involve approximately 5,000 elementary and middle school children, from hundreds of different schools.
"For 28 years, Circle the State with Song has played an important role in providing Indiana's best young singers with an opportunity to perform with others of similar ability," said Area 1 festival coordinator Steve Chambers, who is also the music teacher at Lake Hills Elementary School in Michigan City. "I encourage members of the public to come and hear these amazing kids perform!"
