Barker Competes at Regional Science & Engineering Fair
 
Valparaiso University hosted the 67th annual Regional Science & Engineering Fair on Saturday, February 22nd.  Barker Middle School's Bailey Chavis (7th grade) and Madison Gresham (8th grade) competed in the regional competition.  Former Barker student and 7-time regional fair winner, Nicole Pomeroy, was the Master of Ceremonies.  She is a mechanical engineering student at Valparaiso University and was also a judge for the day's event.
 
Bailey Chavis' project "Fuel of the Future" was entered into the Physical Science, Mathematics, and Computers Junior Division.  Bailey won 4 awards for her project:  David Ford Outstanding STEM Project Award, ASM Materials Education Foundation Award, USAID Exceptional Project for International Development Award, and 2nd Place overall in the Physical Sciences, Mathematics, & Computers Junior Division.
 
Madison Gresham's project "Let's Chew the Fat" was entered into the Biological and Life Sciences Junior Division.  Madison won 2 awards for her project:  David Ford Outstanding STEM Project Award and Biological & Life Sciences Junior Division Honorable Mention.
 
Bailey and Madison are invited to compete at the Hoosier State Science & Engineering Fair which will be held at The Center in Indianapolis on Saturday, March 28th.  This is Madison's second year in a row competing at the state level science & engineering fair.  Mrs. Hamann, 7th/8th Science teacher and STEM Coordinator, attended the day's event.  Good Luck, Ladies!
