Barker Students Win Black History Month Essay Contest!
Two Barker Middle School students won in the Black History Month Essay Contest sponsored by the Michigan City Human Rights Commission. On February 14th the MC Human Rights Commission announced the winners of the Black History Month Essay Contest.
In the 7th and 8th Grade Division, Barker students Destinee Byrd (8th grade) won 3rd Place and Teresa Spangler (7th grade) won 2nd Place. Both Destinee and Teresa researched and wrote their essays as a part of a class project in Mr. Olson's Language Arts classes. Both won a beautiful certificate in a frame with a monetary gift card, $75 for 2nd and $50 for 3rd Place, for their efforts. All winning students in all grade level divisions were honored at a ceremony held at City Hall. Way to go!!
