• Welcome to Our Class
I am Alisa Carlson, a 3rd grade teacher at Marsh Elementary School. I have had the privilege of teaching every grade 1st through 5th, and I found 3rd grade to be my favorite. I love teaching children who are learning independence and are excited to have more responsibility. Third graders have a unique spunk and are so excited to learn. I believe that teaching has two main parts: teaching the standards, and teaching students to have the confidence to achieve their potential. I have taught at 4 different elementary schools in the Michigan City Area Schools District over the last 19 years.
I am committed to working in a partnership with parents and students to maximize the students' successes. Helping students achieve their potential is my main goal. In my classroom, learning is differentiated so each student can work at their level. I want every student to find success and continually strive to do their personal best.
Third grade is the first year for state testing: IREAD3 and ISTEP. Through the year, we will be preparing students with the skills they will need.
Each week, there will be a homework packet given on Monday and due back to school on Friday. The packet contains skills that we have learned in class. Knowing that practice makes perfect, students will also read every night for 20 minutes or more.
  • I received my bachelor's degree from Purdue University North Central and my Master's degree from Olivet Nazarene University.
I am married and have three wonderful children.
