• Principal, Pine Elementary School

Michigan City Area Schools is seeking a dynamic, experienced leader to serve as Principal of Pine Elementary School.

    Background

Pine Elementary School is located at 1660 County Line Road, in northeastern Porter County near the towns of Beverly Shores, The Pines, and Michigan City, Indiana. It serves approximately 430 students in grades PreK-6 and is one of eight elementary schools in the Michigan City Area Schools system.

Pine is a Visual and Performing Arts Magnet School, housed in a building that opened in 2009. As a magnet school, Pine serves students within its attendance boundary and attracts students from across the community who are interested in its unique programs.

As part of the school’s Arts focus, students participate in Arts-infused learning experiences along with a traditional core academic program. The school offers an array of after-school Arts-themed activities, including drama, art, chorus, piano, and dance. The core program includes quarterly Arts experiences and a Piano Keyboard lab. Pine also offers instrumental music (band) for 6th graders.

Pine has a strong and committed team of teachers, and it partners with local artists, community organizations, and area universities. The school employs an Arts Specialist who coordinates program activities at the school and in the community.

Pine offers a variety of special programs and services to support students’ needs, including Special Education that includes push-in and self-contained services, a Multi-tiered System of Supports, speech therapy, and a PreK classroom in partnership with the LaPorte County YMCA.

“Future Wolves” athletic teams are offered at Pine for basketball and soccer. In partnership with the Boys and Girls Club, the school also provides after-school care.

Family events and Fine Arts Nights at Pine are traditionally well attended, and the school has a parent-teacher group that meets regularly to support students, staff, and special events. Parent conferences are held each fall and spring, and are student-led. Families receive quarterly BAG (behavior, attendance, and grade) reports, in addition to quarterly grade reports through PowerSchool.

The staff at Pine is committed to providing a safe and caring learning environment to support all students. They expect great things and desire to see each student reach their full potential each year.
