Principal, Knapp Elementary School
Michigan City Area Schools is seeking a dynamic, experienced leader to serve as Principal of Knapp Elementary School.
Background
Knapp Elementary (321 Bolka Avenue) is one of eight elementary schools located in Michigan City, Indiana.
Knapp serves approximately 380 students in grades PreK-6. The school offers a variety of special programs and services to support students’ needs, including Special Education that includes push-in and self-contained services, ENL, High-Ability, Response to Intervention, Speech Therapy, and a special-needs PreK.
Knapp maintains an active National Junior Honor Society chapter. A variety of clubs further support student learning, including a Drama Club, Board Game Club, STEAM Club, and WNAP Radio Club. Knapp also offers After-School Learning Club for students across all grade levels to receive additional support within grade-level standards and curriculum. “Future Wolves” athletic teams are offered for basketball and soccer. In partnership with Safe Harbor, the school also provides before- and after-school care for students outside of the school day.
Family events at Knapp are traditionally well attended, and the school has a supportive parent-teacher group that meets regularly to support students, staff, and special events. Parent conferences are held each fall and spring, and are student-led. Families receive quarterly BAG (behavior, attendance, and grade) reports, in addition to quarterly grade reports through PowerSchool.
The staff at Knapp is committed to providing a safe and caring learning environment to support all students. They expect great things and desire to see each student reach their full potential each year.

Knapp’s staff includes 26 PreK-6 teachers, along with 16 support staff. The building houses a full-time curriculum coach, counselor, success coach (social worker), and nurse. An Assistant Principal supports both Knapp and one other elementary building.

Michigan City, Indiana, is located on the southern shore of Lake Michigan near the Indiana Dunes National Park – 55 miles east of Chicago and 10 miles southwest of the Michigan state line.
