Head Football Coach
Michigan City Area Schools is seeking an experienced, visionary leader to be its new Head Football Coach. The Head Coach is a key individual within the district’s Athletic program and the community.
Background
Michigan City High School is a proud member of the Duneland Athletic Conference, the premier athletic conference in the region. Our high school serves approximately 1,600 students, with approximately 500 students participating in high school athletics. The MCHS Athletic Department's philosophical approach is one of education-based athletics; we strive to provide experiences that will help students develop physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally.
The past decade has been our most successful era ever for Michigan City High School Football, and there is a strong desire and commitment on the part of the school and community to build on this recent success and take it to even higher levels.
Over the past six years, the Wolves have won three Sectional and three Regional championships, advancing to the Semi-State level in the Indiana High School Athletic Association's 5A classification. During this time, our program has produced several Indiana All-Stars, and we have been consistently ranked among the top ten teams in the state. Recently, our program has produced two Northwest Indiana Times offensive players of the year, and numerous players have been named to DAC all-conference teams.
Representatives from NCAA Division 1 and 2 teams regularly attend our games or meet with our athletes; recent graduates have gone on to play at Purdue, Western Michigan, Florida State, Ball State, Marion, Olivet, St. Francis, Hanover, Franklin, Trine, and Grand Valley State – among others.
An Unparalleled Facility
Michigan City Football plays at beautiful Ames field - one of the most outstanding high school football stadiums in the nation. This off-campus stadium (capacity 4,000) is located in the heart of Michigan City, and its iconic red brick walls provide a unique setting for high school football. The field’s artificial turf was replaced in 2021.
Additional facilities for football include a grass practice field located on the campus of Michigan City High School and a school-based Weight Room/Fitness Center that was completely renovated in 2022. A comprehensive strength and conditioning program is offered for all athletes and teams year-round.
School and Community Support
The Wolves Football program is supported by a strong feeder system, including Michigan City’s successful Pop Warner teams and our school district’s middle school and freshman squads.
The Head Coach will select and oversee a team of six varsity Assistant Coaches, three freshman coaches, and two middle school coaches to support the football program. An active parent group and an MCHS Athletic Booster organization provide ongoing support to help meet team needs – from equipment to team dinners to student recognition.
Teaching and support staff positions within the school district are available for the Head Football Coach, based on qualifications and licensure.
Michigan City Area Schools maintains a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our staff takes part in ongoing professional development that will support you and help you grow.
