The LaPorte County CTE program is currently based at the A. K. Smith Career Center in Michigan City, Indiana. We serve approximately 350 juniors and seniors from all high schools in LaPorte County (Lacrosse High School, LaPorte High School, Michigan City High School, New Prairie High School, South Central High School, and Westville High School) and New Buffalo High School in Michigan.

Classroom, lab, and work-based learning experiences prepare our students for post-secondary success in college, apprenticeships, the military, or the workforce. Our students dress professionally, practice a strong work ethic, and earn dual credits in partnership with Ivy Tech and Vincennes University. They also earn state and national certifications that are in high demand by business and industry.

    On the Move!
This is an exciting time for our career and technical education program! Michigan City Area Schools recently purchased the former Brown Mackie facility (located at Woodland Avenue and Rt. 20 in the heart of Michigan City) and has embarked on a $5.8 million renovation project at the site. The facility will house an early childhood program and will provide new classrooms, labs, and equipment for most of the programs currently housed at A. K. Smith, including Automotive, Welding, Machining, Construction, Education Professions, and more. The Director’s office will be relocated to the new facility, which is scheduled to open in 2024.
