    • In 1920 the Nineteenth Amendment made women’s right to vote part of the Constitution of the United States. Alice Paul had dedicated her life to working for passage of this amendment. After it became law, she continued to fight for issues concerning the rights of women.
    • Bessie Smith and Duke Ellington created music that grew from their experiences as African Americans but that spoke to others as well.
    • David Sarnoff was instrumental in developing technologies that completely changed the way people spent their time and viewed the world.
