      English Language Arts

      • I can find and read three nonfiction articles on a given topic.
      • I can determine the author's perspective and purpose in the nonfiction articles.

      • I can determine and evaluate the argument and specific claims made in the articles.

      • I can distinguish between relevant and irrelevant evidence in the articles AND explain why the evidence is irrelevant.

      Standards:

8.RN.3.3 Determine an author’s perspective or purpose in a text, and analyze how the author acknowledges and responds to conflicting evidence or viewpoints.

8.RN.4.1 Delineate and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, assessing whether the reasoning is sound and the evidence is relevant and sufficient; recognize when irrelevant evidence is introduced.

      Steps of the Lesson:

      1. Go to Google Classroom.
      2. Click the “classwork” tab on the top bar.

      3. Locate the E-Learning topic section and find the assignment for today (2/18).

      4. Locate E-Learning 2/18. Read the directions posted. Your work will go on the Google Doc provided.

      5. Today, you will be responsible for finding THREE articles about the suspect you were assigned to investigate and their motive on the death of Tupac Shakur.

      6. After finding and reading each article, you will need to answer each question in the Google Doc titled "Research Article Analysis." This mimics what we did in class on Friday.

      7.  When answering the first question, you need to ask yourself what the purpose is of the author writing this text. Was it to persuade us to think a certain way? Was it to inform us of something? Was it to entertain us in some sort of way? How?

      8. When answering the second question, think about what the author of this article is trying to prove or say. What is their stance on the death of Tupac?

      9. The third question asks you to find a piece of relevant and supportive evidence for the argument and to copy and paste it. Remember some synonyms for the word relevant are significant, important, related, compatible, and suitable.

      10. The final question asks you to list one piece of irrelevant information. Think about what piece did the author mention that was really unnecessary for their argument to make sense? What piece could they have just left out?

      11. Repeat this two more times on two more articles.

      12. When you are all done, please double check your answers and make sure you hit the "turn in" button on Google Classroom. If you do not hit the turn in button with your completed work, you will receive a ZERO and you will be counted absent for the day!

      Standards:
8.GM.7: Use inductive reasoning to explain the Pythagorean relationship.

8.GM.8: Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to determine unknown side lengths in right triangles in real-world and other mathematical problems in two dimensions.

      Math:

I can apply the Pythagorean Theorem to solve mathematical problems.

      Steps of the lesson:
      1. Log in to your Google classroom.

      2. Today you will complete another homework game on quizizz. You need to click on the link and enter the code to play. You do not have to sign up for an account, but put your first AND last name so we know who you are.

      Standards:
8.GM.4: Understand that a two-dimensional figure is congruent to another if the second can be obtained from the first by a sequence of rotations, reflections, and translations. Describe a sequence that exhibits the congruence between two given congruent figures.

8.GM.5: Understand that a two-dimensional figure is similar to another if the second can be obtained from the first by a sequence of rotations, reflections, translations, and dilations. Describe a sequence that exhibits the similarity between two given similar figures.

8.GM.6: Describe the effect of dilations, translations, rotations, and reflections on two-dimensional figures using coordinates.

      Math:

I can...verify the properties of rotated, reflected or translated geometric figures by measuring and comparing lengths of segments and measures of angles.

I can...prove that lines and line segments remain the same length following a rotation, reflection, or translation.

I can...confirm that angles have the same measure following a rotation, reflection, or translation.

I can...verify that parallel lines remain parallel following a rotation, reflection, or translation.
