Welcome to Edgewood! It is my pleasure to serve as the building leader at Edgewood. I have been an educator for over thirty-seven years with the Michigan City Area Schools.
Edgewood Elementary, a Title 1 School, is a collaborative community dedicated to providing academic excellence and producing socially responsible leaders. We have a collaborative and supportive staff that is committed to building a positive relationship with your child. The staff provides a relevant, rigorous curriculum through a safe and caring learning environment.
While at Edgewood your child will learn to take ownership of their learning, act in a safe healthy way, and respect the rights and property of others. We encourage your child to be involved in our school activities. We offer several clubs such as Girls on the Run, science, drama, radio and Junior National Honor Society. In addition, we will have after school soccer and basketball sports teams for grades 4-6. This is made possible in partnership with the Park and Rec department and parent volunteers.
Edgewood School is one of 14 Indiana Schools that received a 1003(g) School Improvement Grant. This five year grant is funded by the Federal government to support student achievement, teacher leadership, and family involvement.
Edgewood has multiple community collaborations: Safe Harbor (a district after school program) provides tutoring, homework assistance, supervised recreation, gardening and enrichment activities until 6 p.m. We also are a Partner School for Purdue NorthWest University. Edgewood is used for Purdue NorthWest practicum placements for reading, math, and science.
To accomplish our goals we need your commitment and a supportive community. We are asking you to partner with us in your child’s education. Please keep the lines of communication open with your child’s teacher. Check the weekly folder and parent access. Please become involved with our Edgewood School Association (ESA) and our newly formed Fathers and Father Figures Being Involved (FBI). Finally, visit our school webpage and checkout the resources available.
We are in desperate need of parent volunteers. Volunteers are needed to help run the sports program, help in the library, and support classrooms. Please stop by the office if you are interested in being a volunteer.
We look forward to a wonderful school year! Please feel free to contact me with any question.
