• Extended E-Learning (3/16 - 5/1) COVID-19


    Title  

    Hello! Due to the virus situation, the district has temporarily closed all MCAS locations. We will be continuing our education online during this time period. 

    First, you will need to familiarize yourself with Google Classroom. Here is where you will find all instructional materials that I will be posting daily. 

    • To log in to your student's account, follow these steps:

    1. You will need to log in to your student's google account. Student accounts are "username@mcas.k12.in.us.". 
      • Student usernames are generally their first initial followed by their last name. (Mine would be ddewitt)
      • If you have multiple students registered at Pine Elementary, a username may be followed with a number (ddewitt01)
      • All student passwords are → cat
    2. After your student is logged in to their Google account, access the Google apps by clicking the   Waffle    icon at the top right corner of your Google Chrome browser.
    3. From here you must find the Classroom app.   Classroom
    4. Each student has already been added to the classroom. Please find our virtual class titled "First Grader's Extended E-Learning".
    5. ♦Google Classroom can also be accessed within Clever and Learning Place.♦

    Clever will be used to access most of the websites that we will be using.

    • To log in to your student's account, click here.

    Students will be able to message me privately via Google Chat. chat

    • To access this, students will sign in to their Google account.
    • Find your Google apps by clicking the   Waffle    icon at the top right corner of your Google Chrome browser.
    • Select Google Chat.
    • To message me, simply type my name (Damon DeWitt) or email (damon.dewitt@mcas.k12.in.us)

    What To Expect: 

    • Mondays

      • Reading Instructional Day: A video lesson will be provided with instruction.
    • Tuesdays

      • Reading Practice Day: Instruction will be aligned with the previous day's lesson.
    • Wednesdays

      • Math Instructional Day: A video lesson will be provided with instruction.
    • Thursdays

      • Math + Science Practice Day: Instruction will be aligned with the previous day's lesson.
    • Fridays

      • iReady Online Learning + Writing: Learning will take place like a regular E-Learning day.

    Weekly Spelling Words will be assigned on Sundays, and due on Saturdays. All information on spelling assignments are on Google Classroom.


    Current Assignments / Due Dates:

    Daily Questions are the only assignments that are due each day (for attendance purposes). All other assignments must be turned in by Saturday.

    • 3/30/2020 - Daily Question: Trick Question: What do you think weighs more, 200 pounds of bricks or 200 pounds of feathers?
    • 4/4/2020 - Morning Work: Monday, March 30th
    • 4/4/2020 - SpellingCity Assignments (3/29 - 4/4)

    • organize information and write about a topic using correct capitalization and punctuation.

    Steps of the Lesson:

    1. Use any blank or lined sheet of paper for this writing assignment

    2. Write a story about the following:

    • March 20th: Think about something you do at school. Teach me about that activity. What are the 3 most important things someone should know about this school activity.
    • March 27th: Think about a special activity you do with your family. This could be a family tradition, trip, or just something special you do together. Where do you go? What do you do? Why is it special?
    • April 3rd: Think about all of the things you do at recess. Write a story convincing Mr. Huber that we should have a longer lunch recess. Think of 3 good reasons we should have a longer lunch recess.

    3. Draw a picture to plan what you would like to say in your story from the topic listed above

    4. Write at least 5 sentences to go along with your picture, ideally I would like to see 6 to 7 sentences with lots of details

    5. Sentences must be at least 5 words long (the longer the sentence the more detail)

    6. Don't forget to use correct capitalization and punctuation

    7. Use your imagination

    8. Read your story to an adult.
