I submitted a project proposal, similar to a grant, through Donors Choose.  This is a company that works to help fund projects for classrooms so students can get necessary equipment that teachers can't afford to purchase on their own.  I proposed a project for 6 iPad minis, the protective cases, and the warrenties for each iPad mini.  I am so excited to say that it was approved just a couple of days ago.  Now for the hard part, we have to get it funded.

The purpose of this project is to get students involved using technology more frequently in the classroom as well as to have more technology for more students to work together in groups and independently during the school day.  I have taken a training over the summer where I learned how to do many cool and exciting things on an iPad using iMovie.  I would love for my students to learn how to use iMovie as well for different projects in all subject areas as well as use other apps to enhance their math and literacy skills.

I am attaching the link to this post.  Please either consider donating or copy and share the link to all your family and friends so our kids this year can experience the technology that they will be using in the real world some day for their jobs as adults. I thank you in advance for all your support.  I am excited that this was approved so now let's make it a reality for this school year together.  Also, if you donate by August 10 (I know only 3 days), Donors Choose will automatically double your donation so you donate $20 and it instantly turns into $40.

Let's do this and have a fabulous year with iPad Mini Learning!!!

  • Fifth Grade Essentials for 2015-2016

    Hi Families,

I know that in July you don't know who your teacher will be for the upcoming school year, but if you are already checking out my page then Welcome to Pine for the next school year.  I wanted to make sure that we updated a recent decision by myself and Mr. Taylor for supplies.  Please make sure your child has in addition to the already posted supply list:

    *1 more composition notebook

*All folders have pockets and prongs.  No pictures as we will be decorating and creating our own pictures on our folders for personalization.

*Please send any extra folders, notebooks, pencils, etc if you can to help out a student who needs it.

I am hoping that you are all enjoying your summer.  I know that I am and I am also looking forward to starting a new school year with your students.  Please email myself or Mr. Taylor with any questions you have about the supply list.  We will get back to you as soon as we can as we too are enjoying our time with our families.

See you August 19 for the first day of school at 8:35am.

    Mrs. Palleschi

  • Our Class News

Posted by Rachel Palleschi on 2/1/2015

    Hey Families,

To see what is going on in Mrs. Palleschi's classroom, please read the monthly Pine News and look daily in your child's homework folder.  Graded papers and notes will be on the "Keep at Home" side of the folder.  Also, we will use the weekly yellow folder that will normally go home on Mondays, but if I am out for any reason it will go out the day that I return.  If you need me before then, please remember that you can contact me by Class Dojo if you signed up (you can get your login code at any time from me if you change your mind), through email, phone message (I don't check my messages until the end of the day though), and hand written note.  I prefer email and Class Dojo as I can see those right away and quickly respond back to you.

For homework assignments, your child is responsible to put the assignment in their Pine Planner.  All homework assignments are written on my front board in the morning for students to copy the assignment name and due date into their planner.  Most homework is due the next day, but if I am giving them more time, I will put the date on the board.

  • Class Dojo

Class Dojo is an amazing  online tool that I will use to record your child's behavior.  They earn points and lose points depending on what they are doing throughout the day.  They always have a chance to earn points back because I believe in learning from your mistakes.

As a parent or guardian, you have the option of joining by a login code that I give you so you can be updated throughout the day on your child's behavior.  The code will go home at the beginning of the year, but I can give it to you later on as well if you change your mind and decide to join in.  Once you have logged in with your code, you can receive instant updates and have access to text message me through Class Dojo.  You can also receive graphs and reports that show your child's daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly behavior record.  This is the record that I use to calculate part of their behavior grade at the end of the quarter.

There is an app for your smart phone as well in case you do not have access to a computer throughout the day.  The app is free!   I strongly encourage you to join Class Dojo to be more informed on your child's behavior which directly effects their education.
