• Welcome to 7th and 8th Grade Social Studies!!!!
In 7th grade Social Studies, we will be traveling around the Eastern World.  Our destinations will be the Four River Valley Civilizations, Southwest Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, Africa, and the Pacific World.

In 8th grade Social Studies, we will start with early American history and move to British colonization, the fight for independence, formation of government, expansion and westward movement, immigration, Civil War, and finally end with Reconstruction. Students will be asked to show relationships with the United States' and their own local history.

We will concentrate on the four standards of Social Studies:  history, geography, government, and economics. Students are required to keep a Social Studies folder in the classroom.  We will do a daily warm-up which is graded at the end of each four week cycle.

  • Meet the Teacher

From an early age, I have had a passion for Social Studies. I have taught Social Studies for many years-36. I have taught all but one of these years in Michigan City Area Schools. My family and I incorporate visits to historical sites on a yearly basis. I hope to impart my passion for this subject to your child.  I will teach three classes of 7th Grade Social Studies and three of 8th Grade Social Studies.

As a social studies teacher of the Eastern Hemisphere regions and United States History, I welcome any guest speakers with experiences from Africa, Asia, and the Pacific World for 7th grade content or those who have a passion and experiences in regard to 8th grade United States history. Also, if you have experiences and interests for social studies as they relate to Michigan City's history, government, geography, and economics, please contact me at 873-2061 ext. 7457 if you are available to enhance classroom experiences for my students. In light of COVID 19, guest appearances may need to be done virtually.

I am also Team Leader for the 7th/8th Team- Midnight Wolves. If you have questions, concerns, or a willingness to volunteer, please contact me at 873-2061, ext. 7457 or at jpeo@mcas.k12.in.us.  I look forward to hearing from you.
