• Michigan City Area Schools' Adult Basic Education program is designed to meet the needs of adult learners who have not completed high school, and high school graduates who need basic skills. Classes are offered at A.K. Smith Career Center in Michigan City, WorkOne in La Porte, and several other locations. CLICK HERE for a full list of program sites.

    All classes are designed to serve the individual needs of students. Computer-assisted instruction is used for mastery and remediation.  Instruction is provided to meet the varied needs and wide range of levels and learning patterns of adults.  

    Classes are conducted for:

    • Non- and low-level readers
    • Upgrading of reading, writing, math, and other knowledge and skills through eighth-grade level.
    • English as a Second Language for persons who do not read, write, or speak the English language well; citizenship instruction.
