• Welcome to Mrs. Wilkins' 2nd Grade Class!
Welcome to 2nd grade. We will learn many things this year. It has been a difficult time with the covid-19 pandemic. I appreciate your patience and support with virtual learning as we start our new school year. It is important in these times that we stick together to support your child's education. Doing the computer work and reading daily will help ensure that.
Reading is very important in 2nd grade. This is the year your child will have to strengthen skills in fluency, accuracy (decoding words) and comprehension. You can support reading by having your child read daily at home. Together, we will ensure the success of your child in their daily endeavor to learn how to do math and read.
    Classroom Policy on Various Things:
I will keep you informed on all matters that pertain to the class on Class Dojo or SeeSaw. Once you have your code, please activate it. This is our main form of communication. With the covid-19 pandemic, different policies will be communicated to you.
    Virtual Learning:
As you know, kids will start the school year with extended virtual learning. This will be slightly different from last year. It is a full week of instruction. Kids will attend some of the day and have some break time to do work. Seesaw is a new computer program we will use this year. Again, more information is coming. Do know that your support daily will be critical to your child's success.  They must get on daily and do the computer work or they will be counted as absent.
     Other Stuff:
Be assured that classroom rules reflect the  MCAS mission statement. Pine is a safe environment that allows your child to come to school to achieve academic success. It all comes down to respect and working hard.As mentioned above, Class Dojo is how I will keep you informed. This does include classroom behavior and virtual learning efforts.   You can check daily their positive choices and also any negative behaviors. We can also "message" each other to communicate.  By working together as a team, we can facilitate your child's optimal development.
  • Meet the Teacher
My name is Tracy Wilkins, and I am excited to be starting my 15th year of teaching! I graduated from Virginia Wesleyan University, in Norfolk, VA in 2007.  I received an additional add on special education license in 2018.  I have taught many different grade levels, but 2nd grade is my FAVORITE!! Early on in my career I taught at a private school in Norfolk, Virginia.  Norfolk, Virginia has a special place in my heart and in my life path as it is where I lived for 20 years. Over the years, I have taught preschool for the YMCA, 3rd and 4th grade as a special education co-teacher, and now here, teaching 2nd Grade.
I was born in Hobart, IN, and then married my high school sweetheart, and spent many years traveling the world as a Navy wife, but then life happened.  I learned to adapt and overcome many adversities, including being a single mother of twins, and it has brought me to my current life.  I am married to my wonderful husband, Austin, and we have twin daughters, Kaitlynn, and Taylor. We also have a very cute, smart, and sassy little dog named Hannah.  During my free time, I love doing anything outdoors, spending time with my family, and reading just about any genre of books.  I have coached volleyball, soccer, and basketball, and I have played volleyball for years, it is my favorite sport.
