Meet the Teacher
Hallo! I am Nathan Quinlan and I teach all levels of German at Michigan City High School. I graduated from MCHS in 2011 and am proud to be back in the wolf den. How did I come to be a German teacher? German was one of the few subjects in school that seemed to simply come naturally to me. I looked forward to class every day and felt that I truly thrived in the German classroom. My participation in the GAPP (German American Partnership Program) in 2010 with MCHS’s previous German teacher, Herr Ruth, deepened my captivation with the rich culture, language, and people. After high school I earned my B.S. in Physiology (Purdue University) and B.A. in Germanic Studies (Indiana University). In 2017 I spent the school year in Germany teaching English at Holbein Gymnasium in Augsburg and Mering Gymnasium in Mering through the Fulbright program. After my year living in Germany, I earned my M.A.T. in Germanic Studies from Indiana University and became licensed to teach German grades 5-12.
I look forward to continuing many of the iconic traditions that the German program has come to be known for, such as the yearly trip to the Goethe Institut and Christkindlmarkt in Chicago every December, as well as the yearly GAPP exchange with our partner school, Schyren Gymnasium in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm. In addition to these, I am excited to bring many new and exciting things to MCHS’s German program and to share my love for the German language and culture with my students.
