Virtual Learning Day Monday May 11, 2020
Good morning class! Welcome to our very last week of virtual learning and our last week of fifth grade. I know this year ended much differently than we thought it would, but we had an incredible 2019-2020 school year and I am so proud of each of you! I can’t wait to see you all back in the building next year as 6th graders!
Google Meet: 9:30 Memory Lane Monday: Today we will take a trip down memory lane and share our favorite memories of our 5th grade year. These can be classwork, projects, trips, something funny a classmate/teacher did. Really think back to our year in the classroom, and come to our Google Meet with some of your favorite memories! I will have a special surprise to share with you! I will post the link 5 minutes before our Meet time
Here is a list of today’s work. Please complete each assignment posted in Google Classroom. “I can” statements for each assignment are listed below.
ELA- Reading and Writing
- I can...Write routinely over a variety of time frames and for a range of discipline-specific tasks, purposes, and audiences (5.W.1)
Today’s ELA Work Checklist (50 minutes to complete)
- In Google Classroom, select the assignment called Instruction Video: End of Year Brochure. In this video, Mrs. Snearly will explain how to complete your 5th grade brochure. This assignment is one of our favorites because you get to share your knowledge of 5th grade with the upcoming 5th graders next year. Remember, you can go back and watch the video as many times as you need to! (11 minutes)
- In Google Classroom, click on the assignment End of Year Brochure. This is the template where you will create a brochure for an upcoming 5th grader next year. Make sure you think back and give them as much good information about their teacher (me :)), what they will learn, and some good advice about how to be successful. There is a folder called 5th grade memories that has pictures from our year that you may use for your brochure. (30 minutes)
Today’s Math Work Checklist (30 minutes to complete)
I can… Multiply multi-digit whole numbers fluently using a standard algorithmic approach. (5.C.1)
I can… Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and two-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. (5.C.2)
- In Google Classroom, click on the assignment called End of Year Word Problems: These word problems are review of multiplication and division. Read each word problem, find the operation you would use, multiplication or division, and find the equation that goes with your word problem. You will drag and drop these to the correct column. Then you will solve and type your answer in the last column. Make sure you have some scrap paper to work on. (30 minutes)
