    2. Click on the Ready Reading book lesson 21 continued assignment.

Today you will read a lyric poem- a poem that has musical qualities. First, you will read to understand the poem. Then, you will reread to analyze how the illustrations add to the meaning of the poem.
During the first read think about these things:
When does the rider go out riding?
What does the phrase " whenever the wind is high" mean?
What question is the speaker trying to answer?

During the second read, think and do these things:
How do the poem and picture work together to produce a tone (feeling) of mystery?
Underline the lines in the poem that suggest that the rider is mysterious.
Circle details in the picture that add to the feeling of mystery.

Answer questions on pg. 389 of your ready reading book. Complete short response on pg. 391 of your Ready Reading book.

    Writing

I can... Analyze how visual and multimedia presentations and representations can enhance the meaning of a text.

    1. Ready short response pg. 391. Use the chart on this page to answer questions and organize ideas.

    2. After you have completed the chart, explain how the picture supports the mysterious tone(feeling) of the poem. Include TWO details you find in the picture that suggest there is something mysterious about the rider and his actions.

Tips: A good written response restates or answers the question; states your claim or opinion; uses two or more pieces of evidence from the text to support your claim; uses complete sentences; has proper spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and grammar, and contains all of these things for good answer.

Remember to annotate to find your answers.

Ask the questions: "Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How" when answering questions.

Use the information from your chart to help answer your question and write your short response.
