What is Pathways?

    The Pathways to Graduation program, based at Elston, incorporates blended-learning courses in English and Math, along with online courses and credit-bearing career-tech opportunities. Students may also opt for a workplace internship or co-op placement.

    How are students identified for this program?
    Students are identified by Michigan City High School staff. Check with your guidance counselor if you are interested!

    Where are classes held?
    Classes are held at the Elston Building. Enter at the 317 Detroit Street entrance.

    Is transportation provided?
    Yes. Students may report to MCHS in the morning and ride the morning bus to Elston. Or, they may drive directly to Elston.

    Are meals provided?
    Yes, both breakfast and lunch are provided to students by MCAS Food Service, at no cost.

    What are the start and end times for the Pathways school day?
    School starts at 7:25am, and ends at 2:00pm.

    Who are the staff members of the Pathways Program?
    The Pathways instructional team includes three highly-qualified, certified teachers -- in English, Math, and a multi-curricular Online Learning Specialist. In addition, Pathways has an Administrator and an Educational Alternative Program (EAP) Assistant/Attendance Specialist on staff.

    What Career/Tech classes will students be eligible to take?
    Students may take any career-tech class offered at the A.K. Smith Career Center, which adjoins Elston. Classes are open to Pathways students on a space-available basis. More information about course selection will be shared with families upon enrollment in the program.

    Can students also work during the day?
    Yes. Workplace employment is encouraged and may take the place of career and technical education enrollment.

    How many students are able to attend the Pathways program?
    Up to 70 students can be accommodated.

    Can students participate in Michigan City High School activities such as sports, prom, clubs, etc.?
    Yes! Pathways students are enrolled as MCHS students and can take part in activities with their fellow Wolves.
