  • Social Studies- 

    I can......... critically analyze information found in electronic, print, and mass media used to inform, persaude, entertain, and transmit culture.

    Lesson Description

    1. Follow the CNN 10 Student News link on Google Classroom and watch today's program.

    2. Take notes as done daily in class.

    Work to be turned in- none  ( 15 minutes)

    Reading- Non-fiction

    I can..... determine how a central idea in a text is conveyed through particular details, and provide an objective summary of the text.

    Lesson Description

    1.Log into Newsela through Google as you do in class.

    2. Read the article, Revolutionary Leaders: Thomas Paine on News ELA. Read at 990L.

    3. Take the article quiz, making sure to use your strategies to focus in on the questions, eliminating obvious incorrect answers, and choosing the BEST choice.

    Work to be turned in- Article quiz will be submitted for a grade. (30 minutes)

    Reading- Fiction

    I can.... cite textual evidence to support analysis of what a text says explicititly, as well as inferences drawn from the text.

    Lesson Description

    1. Read your independent reading book for 40 minutes.

    2. Complete a double entry journal, located in Google Classroom, on the inferences you were able to make during your independent reading time. 

    Work to be turned in- Double Entry Journal submitted through Google Classroom. (50 minutes)

    Writing

    I can.......summarize and paraphrase important ideas and supporting details, and include direct quotations where appropriate, citing the source of information.

    Lesson Description

    1. Go to Google Classroom and open your copy of Summary of Revolutionary Leaders: Thomas Paine

    2. Write a summary of the article by paraphrasing the main idea and supporting details, including direct quotations where appropriate.  

    3. Submit when finished.

    Work to be turned in and graded- Summary ( 20 minutes)
