I can discover history through Art.

Jacob Lawrence was born in 1917 and died in 2000. He painted what he saw in his everyday life and about African American history.  Lawrence’s most famous work is a series of 60 paintings called the Migration of the Negro. His parents met on their migration to the North. His family settled in Harlem in 1929 at the end of the Harlem Renaissance. Because his mother worked all day, she enrolled Lawrence in the Harlem Art Workshop after school to keep him out of trouble. He became a famous artist and teacher. Even after Jacob became famous he always used the same tempera paints that he used in his after school lessons. Watch this video.
