Welcome to 3rd Grade
Welcome to our class page. I am very excited to start a new school year at Joy Elementary even though things are a bit different this year. My name is Mrs. Macke. This year will begin my 23rd year of teaching in Michigan City Area Schools. I have taught kindergarten, first grade, and fourth grade. I have previously taught at Joy, Marsh, Edgewood and Coolspring. I am very happy to be back at Joy teaching your children in 3rd grade. I graduated from Purdue University Calumet with a bachelor degree in elementary education. I am married with two wonderful boys. In my free time, I love to spend time with my family. I also love to read, travel, and hang out with friends.
3rd grade is a very challenging year with many changes in curriculum. Reading text will be more challenging and your child will be reading to learn. They will be expected to master their basic math facts (addition, subtraction, and multiplication). This is also the year where the students will be taking their first standardized tests. They will be taking IREAD and ILEARN in the Spring. With all of the new changes, they will need support here at school and at home as well. Please be sure to ask your child about their school day and make sure they have completed their homework. I am looking forward to a fantastic year!
