Dear Parent/Guardian:
Michigan City Police have informed us of incidents that involve students in our community who have shared inappropriate images via social media and cellphone apps.
This is a very serious issue for teenagers, and is one that can have both legal and school disciplinary implications. More important, these images can be preserved and could have devastating consequences for students for years to come.
The Michigan City Police Department and Michigan City Area Schools encourage you to visit some of the links below for tips on how parents can talk to their students about this issue, and for information about the safe and appropriate use of cellphone apps and social media.
We are working with law enforcement and others to identify additional educational activities to help families and students understand this evolving safety concern for our children. We appreciate the efforts of all who are helping us to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
Sincerely,
Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins
