Welcome to Physical Education! All Michigan City Area Schools Elementary students receive PE twice a week, for 30 minutes.
Class is broken down into 3 sections; warm ups, stretching and activity. Warm ups usually consist of students performing locomotor movements for about 5 minutes. This teaches them to warm up their muscles before stretching them. Stretching includes practicing portions of the President's Challenge: v-sit stretch, sit ups and push ups. The President's Challenge is a fitness test administered to students in the fall (pre-test), and in the spring (post-test). Students are sent home a copy of their fitness scores every fall at the end of the first grading period. Activity consists of a sport, fitness component or cooperative skill/game.
All students are required to wear proper attire on days they have PE. This means gym shoes. Students who do not have gym shoes will not participate as it is not safe. Girls who wear dresses or skirts to school are encouraged to wear shorts or leggings underneath.
