• Welcome to Our 2nd Grade Class at Coolspring!
We are looking forward to another fun and exciting new year of learning and settling into our 2nd grade routine!
Our daily routine will focus on English Language Arts (EL Education) which includes reading, spelling, handwriting, creative writing, phonics, grammar, listening and speaking skills with rotating stations of phonics, decoding, word work, paired reading, writing, computers, and a listening station.  EL Modules and Skills will inspire our love of reading and transform us into lifelong learners!
Daily CREW lessons will help us learn about and apply our "Habits of Character" in our daily lives.  Children will learn about: respect, responsibility, persistence, friendship, honesty, kindness, empathy, cooperation, integrity, compassion, and collaboration and working together.
We are excited about our new Math platform, IM Math.  We will apply math concepts to real world situations as we focus on extending our understanding of the base-ten number system, building fluency with addition and subtraction, using standard units to measure (time and money), and describing and analyzing shapes (geometry and fractions.)
We will broaden our knowledge of the world through our Studies Weekly periodicals, as well as virtual field trips across the globe and into space.  We will learn about civics and government, geography, economics, and history.
We will conduct many interesting science experiments, on the topics of Matter, Motion, Energy, Space, Balance, Plants and Animals, Technology and Tools.
  • Ms. Luci Mazac   Meet the Teacher
My name is Ms. Mazac.  I grew up in Michigan City, IN and graduated from Manchester College with a Bachelor's Degree in Education.  This is my 26th year of teaching.  I taught junior high in South Bend, IN and for 17 years in Michigan City at Notre Dame School. This included teaching first grade, second grade,  kindergarten, RtI and Health/Gym. This is my eighth year in 2nd grade at Coolspring School.
I am honored to be a part of Coolspring's academic team and am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach your children!
I have two grown children.  My son lives on the East coast and my daughter lives in the Midwest. I live with my sassy 5.8 pound Yorkie dog who thinks he is a German Shepherd and a sweet 6-year-old Shitzu-Yorkie.
