Meet the TeacherMy name is Grace - Biestek. I was born, raised, and educated in Poland. I have taught in an elementary school in Poland for 3 years and I have been teaching from preschool to college level here in the Midwest for 23 years. This is my 14th year in the Michigan City Area School district. In the United States, I obtained my Bachelor's degree from Governors State University and a Master's degree in Education from Olivet Nazarene University.I carry a license in Early Childhood Education, Primary K-3 education, and ESL. (English as a Second Language). The challenges and obstacles that I encountered in learning English provided me with an understanding and an appreciation for the difficulties some children may have in learning. The variety of experiences I have had living and teaching students from different countries has made me value the fact that many students require their own individual approach to help them learn. I am convinced by my experiences living in Poland, Canada, and the United States that with a hard work ethic and consistent learning, achievements are limitless.I am happily married and I have three daughters.

Expect your child to have homework every night. Be sure to check your child’s green homework folder and/or backpack for assignments & school notes each day. Homework is usually due the next day unless otherwise specified.
-
Please make sure that your child brings his/her backpack to and from school EACH day along with their homework folder and school supplies. Learning to be responsible for oneself is an important step in growing up.
-
In order to provide a good learning environment for all students, responsible and respectful school behavior is expected from each and every child everyday.
-
Research confirms that parental involvement is directly linked to a child’s achievement. Involvement includes reading with your child at home for at least 10 minutes each evening, help with daily homework and practice Math facts.
-
We invite you to volunteer in your child’s classroom or for study trips. It is required that all parents, guardians and/or grandparents MUST have a current Volunteer Form on file at our school. You can get a Volunteer Form from the school secretary or on-line. Forms must be updated each year.
Along with your continued support, I look forward to an exciting and successful school year.
