Coolspring Elementary School Curriculum

Coolspring students benefit from a variety of educational programs that address core curriculum in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

Math - Ready Math is used in K-6 classrooms to address student needs in mathematics.  A curriculum map is used district-wide to help address the transient student population within the district, as well as to guarantee students receive instruction in the critical skills and standards necessary for ISTEP+.  In addition, students use i-Ready for at least 45 minutes per week.  I-Ready provides students with online lessons and practice in EXACTLY what they need.  Research shows a 65% increase in scores when i-Ready is used 45 minutes a week.  Instructional assistants work with students to address areas of need in mathematics.

The Comprehension Toolkit series provides everything needed to help students understand, respond to, and learn from nonfiction text, building background knowledge across the curriculum and throughout the year. Classrooms have the Ready Reading series to further support students meet the rigor of common core standards.

Writing - Each classroom has Units of Study, a writer's workshop style program.  Students at each grade level works their way through four units, which are organized around the three types of writing mandated by the Common Core—opinion, information, and narrative writing.

Science and Social Studies - These subject areas are often integrated into the language arts block to address learning needs.  Additionally, all classrooms use Pearson's Interactive Science curriculum.  Students in the fourth grade study Indiana history.
