    Meet the Teacher
Hi! I am Mrs. Hamann, 7th/8th STEM Class Teacher (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) at Barker Middle School. I LOVE working with students and teachers on our STEM theme at Barker!!  I strive to infuse fun, hands-on projects in each classroom that bring STEM to life!! We have a few Virtual Reality Classroom Kits that STEM Class, Science & Social Studies will be using this year which were funded by two grants that I wrote to purchase!! We also have other technology we will be using in STEM Class such as 3-D printers and an emblazer.

I have been a part of the Barker Middle School Family for 28 years. I have taught Computers (6th & 7th), Lifeskills (6th), Physical Education (6th & 7th), and Science (6th, 7th & 8th), have been Barker's Curriculum Coach, STEM Teacher & STEM Coordinator.  I graduated from Marquette High School in Michigan City. I am a Purdue University graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a computer endorsement. I have a Masters degree in Elementary Education, Masters degree in Science Education, and a 5-9th grade endorsement in middle school science all from Purdue University.

In past summers I have had the unique opportunity to design and run the Washington Park Zoo Summer Adventure Camp for students in grades K-5. I have helped to train other area teachers in a one-week Earth Partnership Institute.  I have also been involved in a Math-Science Institute through Purdue University North Central training teachers in using technology (IPAD mini's) to support Math & Science in their classrooms and how to involve their students in hands-on Science activities to support state standards and to infuse Math, Science, and Technology in other curricular areas.  In recent past summers, I have been involved with the Indiana Department of Education STEM Project-Based Learning (PBL) training and will train other teachers in upcoming years.  I also helped with some of Barker’s community partners by judging the MCPD Kiddie Parade and training at the MCFD on presentations and using Powerpoint.

In my free time I like to read, camp, canoe, float & swim, play bean bags, play cards, enjoy the outdoors and spend time with friends. I also enjoy watching college football, GO PURDUE!!  I have also taught a night class at Purdue North Central (now Purdue Northwest), "Science in the Elementary School", for 9 years.

    Let's be STEM-tastic!!
