  • Welcome to the 2017-18 school year!

    Dr. Eason-Watkins with Coolspring students

Again this year, I visited many of our schools on the first day (including Coolspring Elementary, pictured here!). I continue to be very proud of our students and staff and all we are accomplishing together. Over the past seven years, our school district has made amazing progress. Our graduation rate has increased dramatically, and we've received a number of awards and accolades for our college and career prep programs, K-12. This school year, the first class of students will graduate from our MCHS Early College program... with dual credits saving families thousands in college tuition!

This year we are also excited to be fully "1:1" at our high school, which means each student has been issued a Chromebook for use at school and at home. We are also 1:1 at the middle school level in all core classrooms, and we have equipped our elementary-level classrooms with age-appropriate technology. These devices do not replace traditional textbooks, however they are transforming teaching and learning and preparing our students for college and careers of the future. We appreciate the investment by our City, Redevelopment Commission, and other grant funding that is making this possible.

And as we focus on the instructional core and prepare our students for success, we also continue to offer popular program options for families – including elementary magnet schools in STEM and the Arts, services for gifted and talented students, themes at the middle school level, a wide range of athletics and extra-curriculars, and much more. I encourage you to read more about our efforts by clicking the link below to read the "Communicator" newsletter.

I also encourage all parents to use the Parent Access system (click the icon at the top of this page). This is an important tool that will help you track your child’s grades and attendance. Please stay in close communication with your child’s school and teachers. Parents are important partners in the educational success of every child!
