Guidelines:

  1. A student is pregnant or returning to school after childbirth and would benefit from an alternative school schedule.

  2. A fifth year senior.

  3. Students lacking credits due to previous poor attendance, extended illness or familial issues

  4. Students placed on form 16A and considered personna non-gratta at the home

    school.

  5. A student currently on expulsion for a non-violent or non-drug (as in selling drugs) related offense.

Prior to enrollment students are required to:
  1. Schedule and attend an intake conference with Alternative Education Coordinator.

  1. Have a Referral/Individual Service Plan in place or written by Alternative Education Coordinator or High School Counselor.

  1. Upon review of student data the student will be placed in either a ½ day or full day program.

  1. Student must abide by an attendance contract written at the intake conference.

  • The maximum number of alternative students is limited to 15-18 per session according to State regulations and terms of the Alternative Education Grant funding this program.

  • If a student is withdrawn from the Alternative Education program for non-compliance, they will be referred to the Adult Basic Education program.

Program Expectations


  1. Attendance is required , however after consultation with Alternative Education Coordinator a flexible schedule may be considered. Student must call Alternative Education Coordinator when absent. Contact Mr. Rosa @

    873-2120 x 8708.

  1. Students must complete 15 hours of community service per grading period.

  1. Students will be placed in CTE program if they have met requirements.

  1. Individual Service Plans will be reviewed on a semester basis.

  1. The ultimate goal is to return the student to the regular school environment

    once on track and/or graduation.

            Students must take end of course assessments (ECA) at the A.K.Smith Career Center for each required subject.
 
            Alternative Education students may be eligible to participate in the Career Center programs beginning in the fall semester. In order to qualify and             participate students must be a student in good standing.
            If a student is withdrawn from the Alternative Education program for non-compliance, they will be referred to the Adult Education             Program.
